Ce café est originaire de plusieurs petits producteurs du nord du département de Cauca au Sud-Est de la Colombie. Ils vivent et exploitent de petites fermes traditionnelles de moins de 1 ha.
Beaucoup de gens dans cette région sont indigènes de la Nasa (peuple amérindien). Ils vivent haut dans les Andes, entre 1600 et 1900m d’altitude. Leurs caféiers poussent entourés de fruits et légumes sous des ombrages naturels formés par des arbres indigènes.

Ces producteurs font partie de la coopérative COMEPCAFE basée à Piendamo où elle a été créée en 2010.

La Coopérative compte 1400 familles réparties sur 7 zones avec 1600 ha de plantations de café.
