This region is the most coffee-efficient region in the country. It is renowned for the high quality of the beans produced with 30% of coffees classified as "Supremo".

The coffee farms in the area are small (from 1 to 5 hectares). The treatment of coffee once harvested by wash is preferred to preserve optimal quality in cups.

Ce café est originaire de plusieurs petits producteurs du nord du département de Cauca au Sud-Est de la Colombie. Ils vivent et exploitent de petites fermes traditionnelles de moins de 1 ha.
Beaucoup de gens dans cette région sont indigènes de la Nasa (peuple amérindien). Ils vivent haut dans les Andes, entre 1600 et 1900m d’altitude. Leurs caféiers poussent entourés de fruits et légumes sous des ombrages naturels formés par des arbres indigènes.

Ces producteurs font partie de la coopérative COMEPCAFE basée à Piendamo où elle a été créée en 2010.

La Coopérative compte 1400 familles réparties sur 7 zones avec 1600 ha de plantations de café.

95% du café Ethiopien vient de très petits producteurs. C’est un «café de jardin » appelé aussi «café sauvage semi-forestier », il est cultivé sur de petits terrains sur lesquels chaque famille plante des caféiers, des arbres fruitiers et plantes potagères.
Le café y pousse à l’état sauvage, à l’ombre d’arbres forestiers il est cueilli manuellement de façon sélective, puis ils sont traités par la voie humide, méthode qui confère au café une belle acidité.
La région de Sidamo est une des régions de production caféière les plus importantes d’Ethiopie, située dans le sud à la frontière avec le Kenya et la Somalie.
